Canton Reservoir

Around 6 PM, caught 2 largemouth. One about 14", and then a fatter 16", all on the worm, fished very slowly. Pumpkinseed colored Yamosenko rigged Texas...

Very slow bite. There were a bunch of folks fishing with worms and shiners, and nobody seemed to be hitting anything...

  • I think the sign near the dam it says no launching, the one in the park says something like no motors.

  • Wait...is that the spot you're talking about? If so, that sign is new.

  • There is a parking area a short distance down the road, heading north. You can launch and park there. No trailers allowed, though.

  • Unfortunately the cartopper/kayak access from Pleasant St. is off limits. There are huge boulders and a sign of No Watercraft launching from there.

Does anyone know of another spot where we can get a kayak or small cartopper into that Reservoir?

  • If you were fishing from the stone wall by the dam, you won't get many bites at all. The real gold is in the southern cove by the wampatuck gold course and off the small strip of beach to the north, just slightly towards the dam. The cove is known to have lots of bass and the beach has always had lots of variety and good opportunity even for novice anglers. I'd recommend this pond, but avoid wasting time at the dam.
